1. SpaceX
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. is a $100 billion private company that offers space transportation and communications services.
Elon Musk launched it in 2002 with the goal of dramatically lowering the cost of space transportation in order to pave the way for the colonization of Mars.
The Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles, as well as a variety of rocket engines, Cargo Dragon, and Starlink communications satellites, are all manufactured by SpaceX.
Musk became associated with the nonprofit Mars Society in 2001 after being impressed by ideas to build a plant growth chamber on Mars.
Musk traveled to Moscow in 2001 with Jim Cantrell and Mike Griffin to buy refurbished intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) so that he could launch the greenhouse payloads into orbit.
2. Tesla
Tesla Inc., based in Austin, Texas, is the world’s most valuable automaker, with a market capitalization of more than $1 trillion. Electric vehicles, including automobiles and trucks, are designed and manufactured by the renewable energy firm.
It also produces solar panels, solar roof tiles, and battery energy storage from home to grid-scale. Tesla was founded in the year 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning as Tesla Motors.
In 2004, Musk invested $6.5 million in the company as part of a Series A round of funding. Following that, he became chairman of Tesla’s board of directors. Musk took over as CEO and product architect for the firm in 2008.
3. SolarCity and Tesla Energy
Tesla Energy is a company that designs, manufactures, sells, and installs photovoltaic solar energy systems. It also offers customized battery energy storage solutions and services for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. It is Tesla, Inc.’s sustainable energy business, based in Fremont, California.
Elon Musk founded the subsidiary in 2015 with the goal of applying battery technology to a home energy storage system named the Powerwall. Tesla Energy bought SolarCity for $2.6 billion the following year to expand its solar energy producing company.
4. Neuralink
The Neuralink Corporation is a neurotechnology firm working on implantable brain-machine interfaces (BMIs). This San Francisco-based startup, founded in 2016, is co-founded by Elon Musk.
5. The Boring Company
The Boring Company (TBC), founded by Elon Musk, provides infrastructure and tunnel construction services. Its current and proposed projects are geared toward intra-city transportation.
The Boring Company was founded to address the issue of traffic congestion in major American cities. It completed two loop tunnels in Las Vegas. The projects are now in various stages of testing, deliberation, and planning.
6. Twitter
Twitter is a microblogging and social networking platform where users can post and interact. It was founded in 2006. “Tweets” refer to the messages that users post.
With his recent acquisition, Elon Musk now has 400 million active users on Twitter in his portfolio.
